Dropdown product category menu gives incorrect results

Dropdown product category menu gives incorrect results

I'm using the latest version of PowerStore. This is all new for me...

On any of my pages, example (bayarea-web.com/) when you go to the products menu and choose Show All Products it works correctly. However, if you then go back to the same dropdown menu and choose another product category such as Web Design, Hosting, etc. it just gives me the same results (Show All Products). If I use the left hand column menu and choose individual categories it works just fine.

Thanks in advance for the help.

David

It looks like you made modifications to the menu. Did you use Menu Writer to make these modifications? Additional code was added to the menu after it was applied by Menu Writer, which will get overwritten if you edit the menu with Menu Writer. This is most likely what has happened to cause your menu not to work correctly. You will have to revert back to the original files and the menu should work again.

Revert back which files??

The site is built. What files need to be replaced in order for me to have them correctly working? Should I not use Menu Writer? Or, should I just delete the menus that are in the Powerstore and put in new menuwriter menus?

Make a backup of your working site first, but I'd recommend replacing the entire CSSMenuWriter directory with the default one.

Replaced files, but now getting error.

I replaced the CSSMenuWriter directory and I'm getting an error every time I try to enter either the MenuWriter from the template clicking on either the Edit Menu or Edit Contents button:

The database connection(s) required for this content preset do not exist in this site. Please create the following connections to use this preset:

As I have said, I wouldn't recommend editing the menu using Menu Writer, since there will be some code that was added after implementing the menu using Menu Writer, which will get overwritten if modified using Menu Writer. What kind of changes are you looking to make to the menu?

Menu...

I wanted to be able to organize the menu in a few different ways....additional pages, different product organization. I'm just finding it difficult to format the page in general. And no, I didn't see where you said NOT to do anything with menu writer.

Will I break anything if I just dump those menus and started from scratch with the MenuWriter menus?

You wouldn't break anything if you started from scratch and created new menus, but you would have to create the links to the Products_Results page the same way that it is being generated now (they have additional url parameters passed to search for the products in each category).

Please be patient when waiting for a response. Please take a look at our Hours & Policy at the top of the support forum.

Parameters

Can you please tell me about the additional url parameters that I'll need to use when setting up the menus?

I'm new dealing with your company and it just seems that when it comes to answers, you guys give as little help as possible. Solutions are hard to get at best.

On this particular problem I would have assumed that your own product the MenuWriter would work with the PowerStore.

I'm not a programmer. I'm just looking for the simplest way to put together the drop down menus and still be able to pull up results by category. It seems to me that either I'm missing something.

Please advise.
