ecart 2.0 to ecart 4.52

I have an old site in ASP/VB that I need to do some work on. If I open the ecart object with 4.52 and save... will that upgrade the ecart? Theoretically, will this cause any serious problems? Thank.

you cannot edit an eCart 2 cart using eCart 4, the code footprint for the two versions is completely different.

you will need to have a version of Dreaweaver 8 or MX2004 installed, and install ecart 2 into it to work on this site.

otherwise, you will need to recreate the cart using ecart 4.

Is it the same case from ecart 3 to 4.5?

To a lesser degree. from eCart 3 to 4 charge and discount names where changed. any pages that have referances to charge or discounts will need to have the code regenerated.

How can you tell which version of ecart is on a site? I have built several over the years, and I am loosing track of their versions.

It;s not possible to tell at a glance which version was used.

I am surprised that there is not some sort of comment in the files... I searched, and you are right... nothing version specific. This would be incredible helpful information in all of your extensions.

One site, I don't know if it is 2 or 3...can you give me any idea how I could tell... could I post a section of code or send you a particular file?

I would not be able to tell by looking at the code.

one thing to note:
a version 2 cart can be edited with eCart 3.

a version 2 or 3 cart can not be edited using version 4 or 5.

a version 4 cart can be edited with eCart 5.
