PayPal: Auto Return and PayPal Data Transfer

To get PayPal Express and PayPal Pro to work properly, should Auto Return for Websites Payments be checked "on" or "off"?

Also, should PayPal Data Transfer be checked "on" or "off"?

Here's how it looks on PayPal. Thanks.

Auto Return for Website Payments
Auto Return for Website Payments brings your buyers back to your website immediately after payment completion. Auto Return applies to PayPal Website Payments, including Buy Now, Donations, Subscriptions, and Shopping Cart. Learn More

Auto Return:
On
Off

Payment Data Transfer (optional)
Payment Data Transfer allows you to receive notification of successful payments as they are made. The use of Payment Data Transfer depends on your system configuration and your Return URL. Please note that in order to use Payment Data Transfer, you must turn on Auto Return.

Payment Data Transfer:
On
Off

And if you turn Auto Return "on" how will you make it direct to your download page?

The auto return and data transfer are options for Payments Standard. If you are using Express Checkout by itself or Payments Pro that includes Express Checkout and Direct Pay these options will not be relevant.

Using the Express Checkout the user will go to PayPal to login only, they will then be returned to your site to confirm the order. From this point on the user remains on your site.

Thanks Eric,

Good to know. I can't wait to get thru this first shopping cart ... the 2nd will be soooo much easier.

I agree, there may be a bit of a learning curve or misunderstanding about how to accomplish a given task the first time around but once you are familiar with the interfaces and how they operate it becomes very easy to quickly create other carts.
