activating ecart

ecart 5.0
mac os X
I downlopaded and installed ecart ok. I can't activate it. When I go into dreamweaver = insert=webassist=ecart= to try to use it everything in the submenu is grayed out. I tried deleting the macfilecache.dat file and that didn't help. HELP

Make sure you have a php page open when you are trying to use eCart. In general it is a good idea to have a page open when running our extensions.

Thank you, but I had a page open while I tried activating. Also all my dreamweaver pages are html, not php.

The reason the page has to be php is that there are server behaviors that need to run, so you need a server language, and php is the only one supported for eCart. You will have to use php to setup a store using eCart.

ecart & php

I don't understand. Dreamweaver creates pages in html and ecart is a dreamweaver extension. Are you saying that none of my pages in html will work with ecart? Can Dreamweaver convert my pages to php. Sorry about my inexperience.

Dreamweaver creates pages for various different server languages. To convert your html pages to php, you would just change the extension to .php instead of .html. For your server, you will have to install php as well to be able to run eCart pages.

You might want to take a look at the Dynamic Development Tutorials section in the support area of our site:

Creating a select list

How do I create a select list for my products? Will the add tocart button pull from the select list? I am a newbie.

First, you need to create a new cart column to hold the product option value, make sure to set the Unique attribute for this cart column.

Then in the add to cart button server behavior, select the option column and set it to be updateable from a select list.

The add to cart button server behavior will create the select list on the page, you can then populate with the values you wish to use.
