Image Resizer not resizing with dynamic images

I'm not able to get Image Resizer to work on dynamic images.

According to this post: showthread.php?t=16984, it would seem that there is a known bug. I have tried applying it to a static image and then changing it to a dynamic image and also using a static image and applying it from the Server Behaviors menu.

It did resize when the image was static, however neither methods worked when it was changed to a dynamic image, with the file name coming from the database.

The above post was from May 2010 and I've checked and Image Resizer is still on version 1.0.0, so I can't understand why a fix hasn't been issued.

I feel sure that others will have come up against this problem, but there are very few posts about it, so perhaps I'm applying it in the wrong way or it's not designed to work with dynamic images, although that would really surprise me.

Any help very much appreciated.
