moving store files to root

In moving the store files to the root of the website I'm now being directed to the installation process when I go to the root web address. The files have been uploaded to an external host where I've already started the database and added content and product.
I've gone into the 'wa_settings' in the data base and removed the references to the original folder where the files were located. In the 'wa_settings', the 'root URL' now reads mywebsite.com

Is there a step by step or checklist of things that I can use to find a solution to this problem?

thanks,

Rod M.
