yeah, it isn't needed.... \w{2,2} at the end will catch anything that ends with two letters.

It was necessary in previous versions, but the UE4 version should be fine since we added the catch-all for any two character domains.

Your update shouldn't hurt, but as you found it isn't necessary any more.
