They are of value to a lot of people, and some of our non-Dreamweaver users may want to continue to have them even when the extensions are made available. 
So it's not really about protecting the developer. It's more about bypassing the developer, Adobe, and going after the developer's market. They avoid the costs of Dreamweaver, extensions, developer work. Great deal - for them.
I guess the can of worms is really your old customers rather than the solutions themselves. Seems short-sighted to me but if it's more profitable for you to go after the cheaper market I guess you have to do what you think is best for your company. As do we.
