can't see images in cms admin

I wanted to add lightbox to images, since my js has a specific folder for images I am keeping them there. I pasted the link in source view in cms, but only get the red x where the image is suppose to be. When looking at the actual page, the image is fine and lightbox works....but can't see the image in cms admin area. Why is that? It should be able to read the path just like any other page, right?

<a href="images/babylg.jpg" rel="lightbox[people]"><img src="images/babysm.jpg" alt="Intarsia Plans baby" width="80" height="164" border="0" />

the images folder referenced is my lightbox image folder, just a folder in my root folder
