Troy,

I use MAMP Pro on my Mac, well worth the money for ease of managing virtual sites, and run it on Ports 80 for Apache and 3306 for MySQL. I also have my sites contained with MAMP's htdocs folder.

I set my sites up with the testing server being on my local machine and the remote server as the final destination of the files like so:
