Datepicker date not being added to database correctly

Not sure if I've done this right - I basically have an input field into a database like this:

<input type="text" name="Valid_From" id="datepicker_1" value="<?php echo KT_escapeAttribute($row_rsitineraries['Valid_From']); ?>" class="inputwidth300" />

With a Datepicker added with the ID date picker_1, with the JS in the header all looking present and correct.

The date picker itself works OK, and populates the input field with a date in the format:


But the database is populated with : 0000-00-00

And 30 November -0001 is what is shown when the record is displayed on a page.

Basically why isn't 02/14/2013 added to the record?

The only thing I could think of is that it needs to be entered in the form:
