Display total number of items in cart at top of page

Hi I am trying to display the total number of items in the shopping cart at the top of every web page and I read a thread that refers to Quick Cart, how could I access this functionallity?
The post reply mentioned added the following code to the pages,
//WA eCart Include
At the moment, this file does not exist in my WA_ecart directory.
Any advice would be appreciated

Following the post and a Google search I found this link

Is there a way I can add this functionality, without scrapping my existing build, as my cart has been based on the default option for the cart?
