What are extensions or ".mxp" files?
The ".mxp" file format signifies that a file is a Macromedia® extension package. These binary archive files can be installed and managed by using the latest version of Extension Manager that comes with Dreamweaver 4.0 or UltraDev 4.0 (or is also freely available for download from the Macromedia® Exchange). Extension Manager uses the information stored in the MXP file to know what files to place where and also what configuration changes are needed for the Macromedia® platform to which you are installing the extension. How do I install an extension (PC and Macintosh)?
Installation of extensions is achieved via the Extension Manager interface. Make sure you close down all Macromedia® programs before opening up Extension Manager.- Select the Macromedia® product to install the extension into by using the dropdown list in the middle top of the Extension Manager window
- Select "Install Extension" from the "File" menu and this will open a file browse window
- Browse to the MXP file location and click "Install" (the button is called "Open" for MAC users)
- Accept the license agreement and you should be safe to answer "Yes" to any questions about overwriting files as WebAssist.com extensions have been tested to be reverse compatible.
- After the installation is done, you will see a listing for the extension that you have just installed (i.e. "WebAssist.com Cookies")
- Certain extensions from WebAssist.com require a serial number to unlock the product the first time you use it. You received this information in an email sent to you confirming your order but if you do not have this available, please email sales@webassist.com to obtain an unlock code.
- WebAssist.com also recommends carefully reading through the
help documentation before using the extension. The documentation
not only gives you a tutorial on the capabilities of each extension,
it also gives you hints on how to use them effectively. The help
files can be accessed by clicking the "Help" button
located on any of the user interfaces included with the extension.
