add to cart not working

I have set up my page so that when the button "checkout" for the checkout page (renamed registration_template) is pressed it adds the item to the cart and proceeds to the confirm page. It works fine when I am in Dreamweaver utlizing the "Live View" but when I do it online it just keeps going back to the registration_template page. Please help.

Hi .... Host (GoDaddy) says that everything is fine on their end so i don't know what I am doing wrong.

there are a couple problems here.

the big confusion, i think is work flow.

you cant add the item to the cart on the same page that you collect billing information


the flow of the site should be:

Add item to the cart by clicking the add to cart button.
show cart contents on a cart display page.
The cart display page has a link to the checkout page where the user enters billing information.

the way you have the page configured wont work, because the checkout button posts to the confirm page, this bypasses the add to cart code that you have on the checkout page.

So is it possible to collect billing information first and then proceed directly to checkout page which links to them to PayPal and adds to cart at the same time? My boss does not want that many steps in the process - he only wants three.


Page 1: billing information
Page 2: add to cart and checkout
Page 3: PayPal

no, the add to cart step needs to be it's own step.

page that passes to paypal needs to make a post to paypals servers.

the page that adds the items to thew cart, needs to make a form post to itself.
