multiple keyword search phrases

multiple keyword search phrases

It appears that if you want to search for a phrase like "white shirt" you have to enter "white, shirt" to bring up results that include both words. Otherwise the results bring up all white items and all shirts. Is there any way to configure the search so that "white shirt" would bring up the "and" results rather than the "or" results?

in the DataAssist search server behavior, edit the key word search.

there is a section for "Keyword AND" and "Keyword OR" separators.

you can set the Keyword AND separator to a blank space to accomplish this.

Can you be a little more specific how I make it and a blank?

Never mind. I figured it out. Thank you.

Glad to hear it is working.

So, when I switch to a space for "and" and comma for "or", the search results only give me results that have "white shirt", not results that have "a shirt with blue and white stripes". Am I doing something wrong, or is this a limitation of the search facility that it will only give me the exact phrase?

for that phrase to return a result, there would need to be a record in the database where the search column contains each of the words being searched. if all of those words are no present in the column it will not be returned.

also, what is your comparison? is it set to use includes or equals?
if it is set to equals, try using includes.

I am using "includes".

So "and" does not mean just having the two words "shirt" and "white" in the field. They have to be consecutive and in the exact order "white shirts"?

not consecutive order, no.

but each word does need to be in the field.

This is the query that results when I search for "blue tabriz":

WHERE ((stockDesc LIKE '%blue tabriz%') OR (stockNo LIKE '%blue tabriz%') OR (fullDesc LIKE '%blue tabriz%'))

rather than

WHERE (((stockDesc LIKE '%blue%') AND stockDesc LIKE '%tabriz%')) OR ((stockNo LIKE '%blue%') AND (stockNo LIKE '%tabriz%')) etc...

So, am I doing something wrong in my instructions in the wizard to use a space for AND?
