Menu background & var WA_remoteRoot question

Menu background & var WA_remoteRoot question

I have an intermittent problem with the background on my drop down menus disappearing. If I roll the mouse down, I can see the words, and the first menu item has a background, it's just the drop down ones. I have no idea why - I've only edited the menu using the CSS Menu Writer interface. Usually I can just reopen and save the menu and it fixes it, but this last time the only thing that saved me was on copying it back down from the remote server. Does anyone know why this happens or what I can do to fix it - just in case I don't have a good copy to overwrite it with?

Also, in the menu.asp file the var WA_remoteRoot says var WA_remoteRoot = "/foldername/"; which is accurate for my local root, but for the remote it should just say var WA_remoteRoot = "/"; . I can change it before I upload the file, but every time I make menu changes I must remember so I'm wondering if anyone knows what I can do so it's accurate.

Thank you.
Sally

Can you send a link where i can see the background problem top investigate the cause.

the remote root and local root settings are taken from your Dreamweaver Site Definition.

The Remote Root is taken from the HTTP Address you set on the Local Info tab.

The Local Root is taken from the URL Prefix you set on the Testing Server Tab.

Make sure the HTTP Address you set on the Local Info tab is correct for your website so that the Menu writer extension can create the Remote Root variable correctly.

Thanks, Jason. I thought the Local Info tab URL was supposed to be for my localhost directory. I've corrected that.

I don't have a URL for the menu problem because I fixed it on my localhost before uploading it. If it happens again I will publish up a test page for you to see.

Thanks for your prompt help.

yeah, that is a little confusing in Dreamweaver. The HTTP address on the local info tab is for the Remote address.

the URL Prefix on the Testing Server tab is for the local testing server address.

What was the fix you made before uploading the files to fix the background?

Usually when this happens I just reopen the menu and save it again. Even if I don't make any changes to the menu, this seems to fix the problem. But this last time it didn't. So I copied the menu folder down from my remote host where it did work and that fixed it. I had updated some menu points (as I replaced # with actual files) that weren't on the remote host, so I had to do that again, but that was no big deal.

Maybe now that I have the HTTP on the local tab correct it won't happen. I'm just guessing (and hoping).
