Why does it ask for my API credentials?

Why does it ask for my API credentials?

There is precisely NO REASON why one should have to supply one's PayPal API credentials while online. WA should not have any need for that info.

That is a scam and WebAssist obviously cannot be trusted. I find the whole idea abhorrent.

Found on any general site it would be very quickly black listed as a probable phishing scam site.

Having been heavily involved with PayPal for a couple of years until soon after they changed to the new x.com developers areas I advise people to give this new WA freebie a big miss and if installed to DW don't waste time deleting it to avoid the temptation.

WebAssist never requests API credentials. However, Payment Buttons for PayPal uses them within Dreamweaver or Expression Web to retrieve your PayPal buttons. The credentials are then encrypted and stored on your local machine, and are never transmitted over the internet.

There is no reason for anyone to be concerned. There is no way that WebAssist or any third party would be able to obtain your API credentials by you using this tool.

using my credentials

OK what if the pay me later banner is for a client's website. How does he/she get their WebAssist credentials if they don't have an account at WebAssist? I would not want my credentials used for a client.

Your client would need to sign up for an account on our site and obtain a copy of free Tools in order to have their own api credentials.

Typically I do all the work for a client. So that means I will have to setup an account for him/her and download the Free Tools again in order to setup a pay me later banner on his website I am working on? He would not have any buttons in his/her Paypal account. I understand that the client will have to get his pay me later banner code from Paypal and getting credentials from WebAssist is an additional process he would have to go through. It seems pretty awkward or am not seeing the point here?
Thanks

In order to have a bill me know API key that is unique to the client, you need to create an account on our site for that client.
