Adding content management after site creation

Hi, Is it possible to add online site content management to a site sculptor site after the fact? I forgot to check the box to have content management.

I have everything where I like it, but nee to edit content and add pages. i'd prefer to use the online editing tools if possible.

Any ideas?

You would have to purchase a license of the full version of powerCMS in order to do it from the online editing tool.

For some developers it might make sense to purchase one license of powerCMS and run it on localhost to allow you to configure all your sites you create through Site Sculptor.

I just purchased SS and downloading...looks like this is going to be one of your best products this year.

Can you clarify this for me. If I purchase 1 user license for PowerCMS, how will I be able to use this on localhost to manage differernt websites created with SS? Kindly describe the workflow for me please. I'm ready to purchase PowerCMS ASAP.

Here's the process I'd suggest.

1. Create your Site Sculptor Site including CMS and upload and install on the live server.
2. Download the files from your live server to your localhost and define a DW site to that location.
*3. Export the .sql from your live database and import to your local database.
4. Following this tutorial for upgrading the CMS, upgrade the localhost CMS to PowerCMS 2. upgrading-ss-powercms.php.
5. When you are finished making your changes, you will need to upload any new files (make sure not to upload and overwrite the CMS files). Also, you will need to export a .sql file from your local database and replace the live database.

*If you are modifying a site after your client has been modifying content, you should not overwrite the entire database on the live server because you will overwrite your customers changes. Instead, you should create a .sql dump of the live database and import that to your localhost version. You should then disable the live CMS while you make your local changes. Once you are done, you can export your local db and import to the live db without worrying about overwriting your client's changes. Once you have confirmed everything is correct, you can re-enable the CMS.

If we see this as a common use case for our Developer community, we will definitely put some more thought into making this workflow more accommodating.

Thanks for your response. The scenario I'm looking at is a situation where the client requests for a new page afterwards. Maybe I can just regenerate the entire site from a preset using SS? Is there a way I can just upload the new files only and also add the new database table generated? Can you kindly provide the workflow for this. This is my main concern adopting this SS for my websites.

Hey Dipo,

For that scenario i'd still recommend the workflow i suggested in my previous post. That is, if you want to only have to buy one copy of PowerCMS 2 that you would store on your localhost for making updates.

You could always buy a PowerCMS 2 license specific to the site that you need to make changes to, but if you have a lot of sites, that can get pretty pricey - i understand!

One thing to keep in mind is that Site Sculptor's CMS does have the ability to create new pages based on a template which could be sufficient for many of the sites you create. You just need to plan accordingly in Site Sculptor and specify the correct pages to be used as a content management template.
