Forum integration

Hi Im wanting to do something similar to what the webassist site and forum does.

Im creating a site with user accounts and the client wants to interate a forum, can someone advise what the best forum to use for this and any info on how it can be achieved.

thanks in advance

The forum we use is called vBulletin. It is a paid forum though, so you would have to purchase it. For the integration to use the same username and password, you would have to do this at the registration on your pages and create a username and password on the forum using the one the user registered with. You would also need to disable registering on the forum so that usernames won't be created on the forum and not on your site.

So does the user table have to mirror what the forum user table would be or can I create my own table and just disable user registration in the forum and secure the forum area with website login?

Hope this makes sense

Well, if the forum user table is different from the site user table, you would have to copy the relevant information into either table. If you used the table the forum uses to store users, you wouldn't need to have mirrored databases. You would just disable registration on the forum and that should take care of creating users for both the site and the forum.
