Powerstore 3 installation

I have just purchased Powerstore 3 and when running the install stage 2 tells me I cannot connect to my database. Error message as follows:-

"ERROR: Your MySQL user (utshirt_454397_1) needs the CREATE VIEW privilege. Please update the user permissions and try this step again. Contact your hosting provider if you need assistance."

I cannot get any support from my hosting provider over the weekend and I'm desperate to get my site up and running. Is there any way to bypass this process ?

If you can't add the CREATE VIEW privilege to the database user through phpMyAdmin, you can try the command line method.

I found this tutorial that might help:

I am getting the same error, and my user has all priveleges in the DB.

See the attached screenshot:

It has all the privileges that your host's control panel let's you change. You are still missing the CREATE VIEW privilege.

You can find a complete list here:

privileges-provided.html

You might have to use the command line.

The net-net is that this is likely to be an issue with a lot of people.

This is because Cpanel, the much-used website control panel, doesn't support the PHP 5 addition of view creation when enabling user permissions. See this post in the Cpanel forums that contains a link to the actual bug report:

Thanks for the link.

I use Navicat for mySQL and it makes it very easy. From the link it looks like you can also use phpMyAdmin.

Permissions-setting has been disabled in phpMyAdmin on my hosting provider, so there is no way for me to set up the PowerStore DB on my hosted site. I need to contact tech support each time I want to set up a PowerStore instance.

It's lame, but it's the way it is for me, and likely for a lot of others too.

Also, the same thing applies to CREATE ALGORITHM. That permission is also required for the PowerStore DB setup, but neither CREATE VIEW or CREATE ALGORITHM is available in Cpanel as a DB permission option.

Might be time to shop for another host. It will quickly get frustrating trying to use advanced PHP routines if your are constantly limited by the server you are trying to use.

There are some tips for selecting a suitable host in this guide:

I know it's not always feasible to change hosts, but it's good to know what to shoot for.

Hello,

If you manage to get this running, can you post the name of the Host to:

showthread.php?t=9937

so that other users don't experience the same problem?
