username and password fields in checkout

Hello, i notice than when a user is not logged in or not registered at all, after adding items in the cart and proceed to the checkout page, there are some fields for username, password and password confirmation that he must fill.

what is the purpose of these fields?

What happens if he hits the "checkout with paypal" button above it without filling the usrname and password?

thanks!

The purpose of these fields is to have the user register to your site so they can keep track of their order history and you can keep track of that information as well. If the user clicks on the express checkout button without logging in, they will be forwarded to the paypal express page and then when they get back a new user will be created for them on the site before they can confirm the order.

Hello Jimmy
I am not going to use paypal pro or paypal express. I will use paypal standard because my client's company is in europe. I would like to know if it is possible to tracking orders in the backend even if I use paypal standard. And also, how it is possible to have the user signed in before going to paypal standard.
Thanx

Here is a tutorial on how to change the payment gateway if you have eCart:

You should be able to track the orders and have the cart work similarly if you follow the tutorial.
