Need a tutorial for creating my database

Need a tutorial for creating my database

Hi,

I was wondering if there is a tutorial for populating my database to use in DataAssist. I know I can use the support files, but I'm not quite sure how to make my own tables, including adding all the products and images. I have the suite and I tried looking around for one, but I couldn't find one. Am I missing it? Is there a place I can find it?

On our free tutorials and training page we have a sample eCommerce database as well as the database starter kit for php. The starter kit will teach you about databases and creating your own. It is not based on the sample ecommerce db, but the ideas should apply to any relational db. Here is a link to the page:

Wow, thank you! That really helped a lot. What do I do for data entry though? Do I enter it in the insert page? Do I have to set it up with the remote php? I'm pretty new to this, so I am looking for a tutorial to help me through all this.

Once you have crafted your db and have a connection to it in DW you can then create the pages to manipulate the data in your db. You can use the DataAssist wizard to generate a set of pages to control the data in a particular table. When you start the wizard you just select the table you want to start adding data to and it will create an insert page to add new records, and update page to update the records, and search, results, details and delete pages for you as well.

Once the pages are created you can preview them in the browser or put them on your live server to make use of them and start adding data.

Alright, that makes sense. How do you upload an image though? Is there a special form I need for the insert page?

To add image uploading you would need to make use of Digital File Pro on the generated insert and update pages. We have a how to on this subject that can be found here:
