DataAssist and Charset

Hi.

I just run into a problem that i believe somewhere i need to tweek DataAssist's code in order to fix it but i need to know where that is.

For some reason DataAssist creates pages with "charset=iso-8859-1" which conflicts with Unicode Language such as Greek Language.

Therefor when i completed DataAssist wizzard and it started creating my pages DWCS4 started poping up msgs about the encoding and my Greek Writing.

Where do I change DataAssist's code to make it create UTF-8 pages and not iso-8859-1 ?
It is useless to me with iso encoding. And if I may ask why you don't have UTF-8 encoding as default ? Most current providers that updated to 4.1 and 5 of MySQL databases have default encoding UTF-8 where 2 years ago all had ISO-9959-1.

Please answer me as soon as possible cause i can't create any page with your tools if I can't have UTF-8 encoding created pages from wizzards. Cause it means i have to manualy alter the encoding and then replace all the ?!?!?!??! marks on page with the greek language i want to put which is more effort than needed since i allready write the text in the wizzards.

I suppose all your products create ISO-8859-1 encoding so plz give me a solution for WEb and E-cart products since i have bought Web Developer package and im planing on using all its features.

Regards,
Theologos

Ok this happens only when u create pages using DataAssist and without Templates.

If you use Templates and instruct DataAssist to enter the code into a specific Editable Region then cause the template page has UTF-8 encoding the pages are created properly.

Please fix DataAssist creationg process to use UTF-8 encoding cause many people don't use template system (including me) and using "includes" where they separate pages and main content and use variables to show content. If you use DataAssist as is for newly created pages then this product is only for websites that use "Western European" charset and not the most popular and same time should be always used UTF-8.

Please fix the default to be UTF-8 and give us a new Minor Release of DataAssist asap cause its really buggy for developers using "includes".

I checked DWCS4 default settings in case DataAssist uses DWCS4 settings but my settings are UTF-8 and still DataAssist ignores DWCS4 settings completely when creating new pages. Please fix it so it uses DWCS4 default settings so people depending on their default Dreamweaver settings have their pages created as they want.

Theologos,

Sorr that you're running into this issue. I'd assume that the create from template method works the way you expect because the template you are using has the UTF-8 set in the code. We are using a built in Dreamweaver call to create the new pages, and it appears that that call doesn't respect that setting in the preference dialog for the encoding to use for new documents.

I'm sure that this will be an issue for a couple of other extensions that generate pages. I'll log a bug and we'll see if we can determine the encoding selection and use that if possible, else we'll need to minimally document this issue.

Thanks for taking the time to investigate the issue further and letting us know about the problem you're having.

It works with templates but templates isnt the best way to go, creates too many files for a portal. Using includes is faster.

Im using a fake template adding them there and the copy/pasting it currently as im using includes to my project.

Please fix it as its a major bug from the way i see it unless you are planning on releasing webassist projects for english websites only or forcing people to use templates.

Thank you for your reply.
