xampp config for network

I have xampp installed on several pc's on a home network. How can I set up 1 location for my site in the htdocs so that no matter what computer I happen to be using to edit and test my sites on....all use the same file ? I'm starting to go crazy with all the file saving onto flashdrives, then copying over to the next computer

I took an old PC and installed Ubuntu Server on it. There is a very nice installation wizard that asks you what to install. You just check the items you want and it installs them for you. You end up with the same thing as XAMPP plus a Linux server. After the install, you no longer need a keyboard, mouse, or monitor.

Plug it into your switch and you end up with a local testing server server on your network. You also have the benefit of another backup of your files. If you choose to install SAMBA, you can also store files from PCs, Macs, and Linux machines that can be access by any of the other machines on the network.

Let me know if you need any help. If there is enough interest I might be able to write a guide.

Here you go:

Setup a local standalone testing server

Let me know if anything needs clarification and I will add it to the guide. It's been awhile since I set one up so this is from notes and memory.

I just added a new article for this:

Configuring Samba - file and print server
290/

This will setup your new server to allow sharing files with your other computers.
