Contact Response Form - Black background

Thread begun 1/11/2010 9:22 pm by tramacus318721 | Last modified 1/12/2010 4:47 pm by tramacus318721 | 7049 views | 10 replies |

Contact Response Form - Black background

According to my client, they're receiving the contact response form with a totally black (or dark brown) background, making it impossible for them to read the text. I'm not seeing that on my end... it's black text on white background for me. Where would I check for, and correct, this problem they're having?

A good place to start would be on their PC and their email client!

How are they accessing their email? Web Mail or Windows/Mac email client (Outlook, OExpress)?

Are they always accessing it from the same machine?

I would be tempted to look there before examining your code if you are not seeing the same results.

How did it test when you were trialling it? Have you done any significant alterations to the css of the template?

Check out the template email file: 'WA_Universal_Email/Templates/contactus,php' and see how that looks.

Hi neilo

>> A good place to start would be on their PC and their email client!

That's the tricky part. They have absolutely no clue as to what I'm talking about, or how to look for anything in their email client. All they know is that they use Outlook Express (Windows); Not even the version they're using.

>> A re they always accessing it from the same machine?
No. There are 3 people in the office who are also seeing the black background.

>> How did it test when you were trialling it?
Everything tested fine, but that was because the tests were coming to me.

>> Have you done any significant alterations to the css of the template?
None.

I'm not using that template at all. Should I be?

Thank you for your reply. I'm at a loss as to how to resolve this issue.

WA_Universal_Email/Templates/contactus.php

This file is the template file for the way the email that gets sent out looks. If you want to style the email (html) this is where you would do it. If (for some reason) this had been given a dark background, then the email that is sent out would have a dark background.

But that is unlikely, if you have not done anything to it.

Three people on three different machines definitely reduces the odds of it an being Outlook Express problem, unless the Tech admin is on the way out.

Have they forwarded one of the emails to your machine, if so, how did that one look?

That's what's confusing me. I've never used that template, for anything, and don't even have it loaded onto their server. When they forward the email to show me, I get it with the white background. I've installed this contact form on a few sites and no one has ever said anything about a black background.

That template is used by the contact form automatically, that is the way the contact form is created. the email that is sent out is set to use that template.

you can control the way the email is displayed by modifying that template.

So then, if I never uploaded the Template file to the server, would that cause the problem? And if so, how is it that when the response comes to me it looks the way it does in the template?

If you did not upload the template file to the server, the contact form solution pack files would throw an error in the browser and no email would be received.

I am starting a backend ticket so you can send me your files.

I forgot to upload the Template folder, however, NO error was coming up and the emails were being sent. Every test mail I sent went through with no problem, despite the fact that the Template folder had not been uploaded to the server. Then I tried uploading the Template folder to see if that would correct the black background problem; It had no effect.

I should guess that in the absence of any programmed instruction, different systems/browsers/(network mail-servers?) could interpret it in different ways and have different defaults. I don't know.

Hopefully that may be the fault you are looking for. Let us know what happens!
