Very simple Mac localhost problem

Very simple Mac localhost problem

I'm trying to get off the ground with eCart by going through the tutorials and I just can't get my URL prefix set up for my localhost server on my Mac.

Currently it's eCart/

This returns and error when I try to find my database saying it doesn't map to the MMHTTPDB.php?
Type=MYSQL&ConnectionString=host=localhost;uid=root;pwd=root;&Host=localhost&&Database=&UserName=root&Password=root&Timeout=30 URL. Verify that the URL Prefix maps to the root of the site.

I'm I missing something fundamental here because I've tried every permutation.

In the ~my_user_name/Sites/eCart/ folder create a new file named phpinfo.php. aded the following between the body tags:
<?php phpinfo(); ?>

the open a web browser and go to:

you should get information about your PHP server. If not, then the address for your server is not double check that you are using the correct address to access the server.
