Which PHP Server to Use?

Which PHP Server to Use?

Good day to you all,

This Database tutorial is far from completely done.

The tutorial entirely skips over how to install and configure PHP 5.0 and MySQL.

I installed MySQL, but in setting up PHP, it asks me which web server to use. Apache, ISS, etc.

Which would be the best to use for a person who is minimally trained in both of these?

Thanks in advance for the help,
Dan

So would Apache be a good idea then? I prefer to not use Wampp Xampp etc. I had problems with both in the past.

Thanks,
Danny

I won't use anything but Apache.

I don't know what problems you've had with XAMMP but it's by far the preferred method of setting up a testing environment. Configuring all the components manually is not really for beginners.

If you remove any components you may have installed before, then XAMPP should be easy to install. Many have reported success using this guide.

As Office Guy has said, XAMPP is the simplest package to install. The most time consuming part of installing XAMPP is the download. Once it is downloaded, running through the installer takes about a minute. at the end, you should have a functional Apache, PHP, MySQL environment.

If you have already installed any of the components separately, you should uninstall them before installing XAMPP. Also, if IIS Is installed, it should be stopped or uninstalled before trying to use apache, the two will conflict with each other.
