Multiple site maps

I have an existing site with two sitemaps. (sitemap.xml and sitemap2.xml) How can I submit both to the search engines? If I submit one, then submit the second one am I writing over the first one?

This is not something that I have a lot of personal experience with myself but I'm pretty sure that the latest submission will take precedence over the earlier one. If you were able to maintain multiple versions of the sitemap.xml what would happen if you have duplicate values, which one would it use?

If you have some different info in the files you should try to combine them into a single xml file and submit that.
