Purchase and Download of Digital Items

Purchase and Download of Digital Items

I have a customer who sells digital documents (documents in PDF-format).

The catalogue, cart and checkout have been setup and are working correctly.

The idea is that the user logs in; consequently the catalogue allows him/her to
1. download those documents that have already purchased
2. allows the purchase of further documents

In the Catalogue how do I:
1. flag to show a download link (button) in lieu of the order link (button) if the document has already been purchased
2. disable the purchase link (button) for items that are in the cart; the document can be ordered just the once.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

PS To keep the problem simple, I have not included the facts that the documents are government regulated and need to have a unique customer ID printed on them and that a Spry Data Region is being used for the Catalogue, Cart and Checkout. These have been implemented and are working correctly

Just thinking off the top of my head, I would would search the customer order table to see it the item about to be displayed on the catalog page, is in that customer's order history. Then on the catalog page, do an If statement:

If found
display download button
display purchase button

Each button would link to a different page.
