Search for BOSS GMC Build Available for WCE

A zip file will be emailed to you today, containing Search for BOSS GMC (Beta). The beta build is only available to the WCE group so please do not report bugs or feedback in the regular support forums; use this forum to provide us input or ask questions.

The serial number for this group is OpwQv-bjaHi-0xyrp-zVUYS. There are a limited amount of activations so please do not install on more than 2 machines. This serial number will work until it goes live (likely next Friday). Post here, if for any reason, it doesn't work before then.

We look forward to your feedback!

So far, I love it. I love that I can customize how the result will look right down to the most finite of details - something that was impossible before with the various google add on search engine and too time consuming have it to do it all by hand with other search apps.

A couple of quick thoughts... it took me a minute to figure out the way to add search results was to first enter the binding tabs and then later add a repeat BOSS region. But, my thought for some of the users (just by seeing posts having trouble with some of the most simple tasks), is that you consider creating, say, a pre-made result structure with the basic stuff (i.e. Title, Abstract, URL). Another thing to consider would be tying in particular result combinations with the preset manager.

I'll have some more thoughts soon after I twist and pull on this thing a bit more.

Cheers,

Brian

1st Attempt (20min) effort

Installation was very simple.
Using Help, I was able to create a Yahoo API.
Using Help, I was able to create a page that did both the search and the results on the same page.

However, I'm at a loss as to how to get any text to show up...See my attached GIF screenshot.

I would recommend that the process from install to result be clearly stated.

Reading the Boss Guide online...
Web_Search.html#d3e196

I will probably figure this out, but obviously this is more involved that most new folks will be able to handle the way it is now.

Success... Total time invested... (60min)

Yes, very nice. The Bindings were there, but not obvious.

How do you clear the results?
So that it doesn't automatically try to produce a result.

I'm pleased with the extension overall, but I think there needs to be a basic default output provided once the Server Behaviors have been properly applied.

If you don't provide this on your initial release, you will create a flood of support issues.

(just my opinion)

Search for BOSS Getting Started Guide

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your feedback regarding Search for BOSS - we really appreciate it!

We've completed the Getting Started Guide for Search for BOSS and think this might be useful as you work your way through the product. Hopefully this can clarify things a little for those who got a little stuck working with the Bindings to create the search results.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the suggestions... we will update the object to add the boss results inside the repeat region instead of just the repeat region. The repeat region will only be accessible through the server behaviors if you wanted to add it individually.

This should make the extension easier to use for a first time user. Thanks again for the suggestions.
