Wish List Thread

could the mods create a pinned running wish list....

I would sure like you come up with a non-sql mxp for delivering personal rss news feeds. I recently purchased a PHP script that seems pretty good but cannot get it work with my dreamweaver templates. This seems like a natural product for WA and confused why you have relied on Blogger and now a WordPress solution???

With MySpace, Twitter and other solutions, having a pro looking self-branded 'news' delivery system would be wildly successful. I use your Sculptor on a regular basis but wonder why you are putting so many eggs in the CSS basket. I have yet to get the data assist to work on my server.....but, since you are focused on PHP, it seems there are many designers that would pay for a legit coding solution.

Wish list

Hi Robert,

I'm trying to understand your post.

I think a running wish list is a great idea. Maybe one where people could vote for the ones they want implemented first, so you don't just get me-too responses scattered about.

Why don't you want to use a database for dynamic data?

Where are they relying on Wordpress and Blogger?

"why you are putting so many eggs in the CSS basket",
as opposed to what? I think it's sort of important to stay with standards at the time products are produced. Most people are using CSS now so I think it would be a mistake to go against the tide.

Not sure I know what you mean by "I have yet to get the data assist to work on my server". It is used on the desktop not the server. If you are talking about the generated code, you would have to be a little more specific.

"since you are focused on PHP, it seems there are many designers that would pay for a legit coding solution. ",
It sounds like only PHP coders would pay for legit code? Not sure what PHP has to do with it or what a non-legit solution would be. Are you talking about RSS, CSS, or Data Assist?

Puzzled.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I think having a running poll of desired features would be helpful.

I am a designer....I cannot get my head around databases. If a purchased solution can be ftp'ed and installs itself with prompts I am fine. An example, I use slideshowpro.net for many image gallery solutions with has their Director feature. No problem...installs just fine. I have installed several forums, wordpress sites and a drupal site. No problem. But, I cannot get the data assist to work.....I have tried everything and I am absolutely sure I am not doing something correctly but at the end of the day I bill hourly. So, I purchase software that can be budgeted for the solution. I don't doubt data assist is a good product. But, I have spent 10-15 hours and my billing rate is $85/hour and nothing worked. So, I just lost $850 and learned nothing.

So, maybe part of that issue is there are many different hosting configurations so connecting to a database might be problematic for designers like me. So, having a non-db news solutions would be more universally applicable.

My point about PHP is a positive one. WA has committed to the PHP direction. Which, is easiest for me as a designer to implement in Dreamweaver if the code is idiot proof. My real point is with Sculptor, CSS Nav and now Joe asking what is the next CSS solution user want....I am saying there is plenty of CSS for now....how about a different type of product that fills a niche that obviously has a void. I have invested in the WA solutions...so, I am in this for the long haul. But, I BUY things to make my sites better and also to offset my ability to do certain things by hand. I know just as many PHP coders that cannot design worth a damn and know just as many designers that cannot hand-code PHP.

FYI, we have a wish list forum that would be the perfect place to post any ideas such as these.

On your other note:

Just think of databases as an easier way to manage data. The database takes care of all the details for you instead of having to deal with all of the data manipulation manually. A database is like a file cabinet compared to a pile on your desk.

If you are talking about WA using blogging software for a blog - that makes perfect sense to me. Why recreate something from scratch when someone has already done it well, and is giving it away for free?
