paypal duplicating charges and not processing cards all the time

It works intermittently..in the last 5 days, 4 duplicate charges and occasionally not processing good cards..Any suggestions? Is this a session value problem?

could be, try adding the following code to the checkout success page after the </html> tag:

php:
<?php

// Initialize the session.
// If you are using session_name("something"), don't forget it now!
session_start();

// Unset all of the session variables.
$_SESSION = array();

// If it's desired to kill the session, also delete the session cookie.
// Note: This will destroy the session, and not just the session data!
if (isset($_COOKIE[session_name()])) {

setcookie(session_name(), ''time()-42000'/');
}

// Finally, destroy the session.
session_destroy();
?>

I am trying this..

Does this make sense?
I added the paypal local checkout response code on the checkout failure page from paypal to see whats going on there.

Then for the duplicates. I had removed the paypal express button but saw that I hadn't removed some code that was generated the by ecart that was still on the page to send to paypal..could that have been the reason for duplicates?

if you added that code to the checkout success page, it should not have killed the shopping cart.

There could be duplicate code causing the duplicate orders, maybe it is the code you are referring to for express checkout, or there could be 2 local checkout behaviors on the confirm page.
