I think that ship has sailed. There was plenty of discussion when it was announced. The ability to plan, test, and support one set of extensions instead of three cuts development time by two thirds. It's more of a "what are people using" than a "which is best" type of thing.

Yes, unless Coldfusion all of a sudden starts gaining market share, we won't be going back.
At the time we cut it, around 5% of our users were on Coldfusion servers, so the extra time and effort we determined would be better spent improving php features, testing, and creating documentation.
