ADOBE COLDFUSION 8 ADMINISTRATOR page

When I select the Define button a page ADOBE COLDFUSION 8 ADMINISTRATOR page pops up with a url http:/<mydomin>/CFIDE/administrator/datasources/index.cfm. This page asks for a password with the greyed out User name admin. Is it possible to change the User name. I'm using a Helm control panel to administor the domain i.e. set up DataSources, DataBases, ft accounts etc. so I don't need this page to create a COLDFusion DSN. When I use a Server model PHP and select the Define button the dialog allows me to create a connection name, MySQL server, User name etc. Why is the define going to this ADOBE COLDFUSION 8 ADMINISTRATOR page when define is selected for a Server model COLDFUSION. Any help appreciated thanks.

The way the ColdFusion works within Dreamweaver is through RDS connections. When you specify ColdFusion as the server model and the URL of the server it will want to you enter the necessary details to connect with that cold fusion server. Once the connection is established you can select from any of the datasources available on that ColdFusion server.

When you click on the define button it brings up the ColdFusion admin interface so that you can define a new DSN. If you do not need this then you should just establish the RDS connection to your server. To do that open up a ColdFusion page that has been saved to your site and go to the databases tab of the application panel. In here you should see a checklist for info needed to connect to your ColdFusion server and use the DSNs available there. Once you have done this part you should just be able to select any of the data sources directly from withing the wizard interfaces.

Thanks for the info but I don't think RDS is running on the server. I'll have to check with my service provider.
When I click on RDS login it displays an error saying:

Macromedia Dreamweaver
Possible reasons:

* 1. The URL specified for this site's testing server may be incorrect: idahofineliving.com/
* 2. The testing server may be incorreclty configured (for example, ColdFusion may not be running).

I know ColdFusion is running for sure, is there any way to check if RDS is running? other than asking my service provider. Once again thanks for the info.

If you have access to the ColdFusion admin then you should be able to check on this option yourself. Within the ColdFusion admin area is the security settings. In here click on the RDS password option. This is where you enable RDS password access and set the password. If you do not have access to this area of the admin panel then you may need to contact your hosting provider or admin to configure this for you, or check the details like the password.

If you do not have a local ColdFusion server setup this may be a good way to go to do local development. So long as the datasource is named the same and the same as the live server the pages should work the same when you publish them.
