value problem

value problem

When attempting to create a bar chart from a MySQL table, the chart appears as 'undefined'. When using the wizard to edit the chart, I get the message

'Please use only numerical entires (sic) for values'

The x axis is student ID and the value is the number of merits received,a numerical value. Is there any way I can overcome this?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

What is the result you get if you attempt to make a chart like this but use static values in the wizard? I'm wondering if it is just a db related issue or a problem with the installation that you have. If it is only a db issue please post back with a copy of the db if it is ok for public posting. If you need to post files privately let me know and I can open a ticket for you.

same result for static

Thanks Eric, and thanks also for dealing with my earlier issue so well.

Static gives the same result. Additionally, I have displayed db results in tables etc with no issues in the app. Whenever I view the pages the chart appears as undefined. I have attached the code from the chart page, the associated data page and the parser page if this helps.

Many thanks again.

Do you have a link to a live page with this on it? With the page you posted and seeing the end result on a server I will be able to get a better idea of what is going wrong.

still not working- see live page

Thanks

Please got to www.ccsparentzone.info and enter the following in the 'UPN' field:
G908200700013

From the next page, select 'chart'. as you will see, it only displays as undefined.

Any help most appreciated!

Many thanks

Go to: charts_dataparser1.php

and

charts_data1.php

That will show you the errors causing the chart not to show.

Thanks Ray

I altered the code to render to call the data connection which removed the error, but now only a line of code displays- follow previous links to seewhat I mean. I have attached the code that seems to be the cause.

The pages are completely blank when I view them now. It doesn't give me much to go on. You must have some sort of error or else the data1 page would not be blank.

Start by working on getting content on the data1 page and everything else should fall into place.

getting closer but...

I can now display a chart from the database but it all goes wrong when I try to apply a filter based on session variable. I know the variable is fine as it filters all my recordsets. When I go in to edit the chart in the wizard, it doesn't even remember the variable and the 'filter' option is set to 'none'. I really need the filter to work as each chart should be unique to the UPN of the student.

Problem solved!

OK, managed to sort this. In the data page I used DW to edit the recordset to ensure the session variable was picked up. The wizard won't create the code 100% so some manual editing is required. I'm now going to experiment with passing on a variety of filters as some charts will need to carry two or more.

Thanks for all the help Ray
