Associating certain products with one order

Working on a cart that needs to have this function. Once a customer adds a certain amount of a main item to the cart, the customer than has to go back and choose a design or multiple designs that will go with that main item. How do I associate those designs with the main item, so they show up as a group in the cart?

thank you vjc

Since the cart just holds a collection of items that have been added there is really no concept of related items within the cart other than columns having like values. You could add in an extra column to the cart that would hold an identifier value so that you can relate some items to another based on the value in this column.

Even if you have the items organized like this there is no functionality to reorganize the cart display based on the relation of the items. If you want to get this implemented it would be completely custom and would require a bit of hand coding and editing of the eCart code.

Is this a service that Web Assist offers?

The customization of the cart code to achieve this result is not a service that we offer. If you feel that it is not a task for you to handle you may want to try posting to the job board to see if any one can help you get the custom development work done that you need.

As for getting the items in the cart and having them associated with a parent item based on the column values this part is not custom and can easily be achieved directly from the eCart interfaces. You could just have a column for product family or relation and specify some identifier for the child items and the parent. Having the items that are related use the same column value like this will make it easier to do things like incorporate discounts or charges based on the item packages that are being purchased.
