worth fighting to go on to php 8?

Hi I have had to update my server.
It is on PHP 8
.
Before I start fighting with trying to make it work properly, should it be working at all?
I got a failure on the very first page, and am wondering if it is worth my while continuing with this battle!!!!

Thanks.

Plesk Obsidian 18 workaround

Hi

For anyone else who needs it, there is a workaround if you use Plesk to administer your site.
Modern versions come with 8 out of the box, but 7.4 is available. Took me a while to find it.

Look in the Plesk Menu on the Tools and Settings page.
Find "Add/Remove Components" or similar.

Find the "Web Hosting" options
page, expand:

There you will find a "PHP interpreter" section.

And within that, you will find an option to install the 7.4 version of PHP

eCart should then work just fine.

These are options on a Linux server.
Should be there or thereabouts on a Windows machine, I would think.

Peace everyone. I am a happy camper, now

Love yiu Ray, and thanks

Plesk hosting feature section, if this is a Windows server.

Thanks for the share!
My previous server guru also mentioned this, that the server gods may want to push only to 8.0 etc but they can make allowances in the set up for 7.4. This comes into play for me because my CoffeeCup forms have not yet, even after a year, updated to 8.0.

I have managed to upgrade all my WA sites now to php8.2 which included one eCart site with very few issues - any problems I had have already been covered in a separate thread at https://www.webassist.com/forums/posts.php?id=46999.

If you can copy the site onto a testing domain running php8 then add error reporting at the top of any page that throws an error, I found that's the best way of dealing with it:

<?php
error_reporting(E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors','on');
?>

Hi,

Thanks for this helpful info. I will try that, but not right now. This is a busy season for me, so don't have time to mess around with experimentation. But do so want to keep using Ray's stuff. Don't think I need to say why. If I can update through all iterations of PHP 8, that would be great.

Thanks for the tips,

Hello,

Sorry to be a pain, but one other thing.

I did not know there had been any activity on this thread until I came to the site and actually looked.

The checkbox by my name up above that says "Email me with all replies to this thread" is checked.

But I did not receive. Same as last thread I had. Is this something that has stopped happening, or is there some other button I need to push. Don't mind if those auto-responses have stopped happening 'cos it's easy enough to keep popping back.
But if that's what's now necessary, would be good to know.
Please don't fuss over it. Not a big issue. Just wondering.
Thanks

I don't get email updates from WA forums any more either, stopped a few months back. They did restart briefly around 25 March and I received three emails, but since then - nothing. I usually check the forums every day and use the filter at the top to view activity in the past 24 hours, but would be good if the email notifications could be reinstated - Patrice may be able to request?

Thanks for info.
i will do as you do, and check back occasionally.
You keep yourself well, now.
Thanks for your kindness.

(PS: Posts seem to take an age to appear as well. Leave me thinking it's about to fail. So I always do Ctrl-A cooy before trying to post There's a lot worse things than having to rewrite an entire post, but at least that saves a little)

Yes, I always copy what I've written before I post too, have been logged out too many times whilst posting and it's a pain!
