Need to duplicate Categories

Currently my catagories are representing products. I need to have another tab that would duplicate another "categories2"? which would be "decorating ideas" and is dynamic then underneath that I would have "kitchen", etc. How would I go about doing this?

As I review your question about the categories I feel that I'm missing some details. Are you asking to have a page in the admin area that will create a new category and populate it with the products that exist in another category? Please post back and include some more detail about exactly what you would like to have in place. If you can explain what the end interaction would be from the perspective of the user this would be most helpful.

Yes, I would like to be able to create in the admin section a category that has products, then I would like to have another category that has decorating ideas that is dynamic as well but on a separate tab.

hmmm.... I thought that I had a clever answer for you, but I am interested in what you find out. I can see how new catagories will show up in your "show all products" tab, but not how to have them show up in another tab exclusive of your other products.

If you just want to duplicate an existing category with a new admin page it would need to do the following:

Have a recordset that selects all of the item where the category id matches the desired category.

You would then need to have a multiple insert that would insert a new record for each of the records in your recordset. You would insert all of the same details for the items except for the category id. This would need to be set to the id for the target category. In the end this would give you a category that has the same items as another category on your site but a different category id listed.

This may not be the easiest or most straight forward thing to get implemented as it will require some custom coding and knowledge of php and MySQL. Due to the custom nature of the task it is not something that is directly supported.

As for the second category that you refer to it does not seem that this would be any different than any other category with items associated. You would define the category then add items to it.
