Shopping cart empty after moving to a new web host

Good afternoon,

I have a thorny issue with my shopping cart for my BuyAfricanViolets.com website. I migrated over to GoDaddy as my new web host. Of the four websites I transferred over, I only have issues with one of them, The functionality of the website appears OK so I am a little perplexed as to what is going on. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Usually this is an issue in the php.in with the session_save_path being set to a directory that either doesn't exist or doesn't have proper privileges. This is probably something your hosting provider would have to address for you.

If you create one page that has:
<?php
@session_start();
$_SESSION["test"] = "works";
?>

and then create another page with the code:
<?php
@session_start();
var_dump($_SESSION);
?>

Then visit both pages on your site. If sessions are working then the second page will have the "test"="works" session variable listed. If it isn't then you can use those pages to demonstrate the issue to your hosting provider so that they can fix it for you.

Ray,

Thank you for getting back to me. I had a feeling it was a session issue. Quick question: for me to test this properly, do you recommend that I add the first session code ( "works") to the details.php page that has an add to cart button and duplicate detail page that has the other session code?

I'd just create two new blank pages. That way if there is an issue your hosting provider can't mistakenly blame it on other code on the page.

Excellent suggestion. Let me get right on this.

OK. For the works session, the page is blank. For the 'var dump' code, the page output is:

array(0) { }

What does this mean?

I wanted to let you know that I fixed the issue. The user.ini was set to php3 instead of php4. I just copied a working user.ini file from another domain, and the cart is working 100%. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction Ray. A modest donation is coming your way. : )

Robert
