What is the best way to move CMS sites to a new hosting company?

I'm losing links to files or the files themselves. Linked files are fine on one site but not on others. Thought I did everything the same.
Setup database. Uploaded CMS folder except connections folder. Ran installer. Export database from old server. Import to new. Everything was going along great until I realized files weren't there. Do I need to bring them over somehow?

Thank you.
Laura

Update - I found the files and figured out kcfinder is messed up. Not sure how to fix just those tables in the database while leaving the others alone.

The kfm tables should be regenerated automatically. They should be re-created and updated with the current file information.

Thank you Ray. What do I do when I get the message the tables already exist? When I run the installer, it creates the tables. Then I want to import the database from old server but it has all the same tables in it. I think where I messed up is I deleted all the newly generated tables thinking the old ones could easily take their place and I wouldn't get those messages.

Just delete them all... or don't include them in the import. Those tables should be automatically generated and shouldn't need to be moved over.

New plan - I think I was over-complicating things. All I really need to do is export the database from old server. Import to new server. Download all the saved files with CMS. Upload all CMS files tp mew server. I think I shouldn't need install_cms folder.

What am I missing because these steps aren't working either?

thank you.

And now I'm back to no files and I just get that weird image in KCFinder. I tried with kfm tables and w/o. I have everything duplicated on new server. Database export - import. Connections file updated. Not uploading install folder. I must be missing some little step.

thank you.

If you send me FTP access then I can take a look, or you can call me and we can do screen sharing. My only guess is that the file upload folder isn't set correctly. I don't think this is a database issue.

I can't seem to browse to the files when I upload them they aren't changed. Do I need to use a different url?
