Create a download behavior that links to a file on a separately hosted subdomain

Hi Ray, I host a client's main website (e.g. https://www.domain.com) on my dedicated server but my client has a subdomain set up on their own server (https://files.domain.com). Ideally I'd like to create a file download behavior on the main website that would get the files from the subdomain, rather than just creating a standard hyperlink. I tried with the settings as shown in the screengrab but it didn't work. Is there a way to get this to work?

I'd have to update the library file to support external files. I should be able to do that easily in a premier support ticket if you want to schedule an hour with me.

That would be great thanks as I would like to be able to do this on a few locations on the site as the amount of files needing stored is growing all the time, hence the need to move them to an external source.

I can send a Zoom invite if that works for you - when would suit? I'm in the UK and evenings are probably better for me.

Thank you. I'll get the new feature included in the next DataBridge build. Let me know if you need help with anything else.

Hi Ray, I had to park this project for a while because I was working on other stuff, however I've now had a chance to come back to it - I need to now update the download behavior to use dynamic values, however it seems to be causing a problem - when I hit the Download button it prompts me to download the current PHP page and not the remotely hosted file, so I downloaded it anyway and it's just a blank page. Can you take a look at the attached page and see where I've gone wrong? The remote file definitely exists.

Try updating your form action from:
action="<?php echo (htmlentities($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"], ENT_QUOTES)); ?>"

to just:
action=""

That might be the issue. The recordset needs the url parameter to find the correct row and that action is probably stripping it out. Leaving it blank preserves the original page location including the url parameter.

Not sure why, but I'm not receiving emails when you reply to my posts any more? Just saw your reply and tried what you suggest, however it seems to be damaging the files when they're downloaded - a PDF gives me an error message saying it's either an unsupported filetype or may be damaged; a Powerpoint file downloads and opens, but it's a blank slide. I've added SFTP details and a test page in the PM section if you want to give it a try?

I had to update the include file: webassist/file_manipulation/helperphp.php

It wasn't working with remote files with https.

The download seems to be working now.
