Mail failure - rejected by local scanning code

Hi,

A couple of days ago my website went on and offline over several hours and occasionally I got a 502 Bad Gateway notification. I raised a support ticket with my hosting provider and they said they were experiencing some temporary networking issues. After the website was back online, I then discovered yesterday that none of the email triggers were working across the site and each time I would get an email with the following:

Mail failure - rejected by local scanning code

A message that you sent was rejected by the local scanning code that
checks incoming messages on this system. The following error was given:

local configuration problem

I contacted my hosting provider for support and they said there were no issues with sending mail and created a short script on my site for me to test, which worked, so they concluded that the script on my site needs checking.

I have checked the WA_Email.php file on the server (v1.15) and this is different to my local file (v1.20)

Could this be the issue? I'm nervous about updating this file without checking with you first since I can't understand how things were working a few days ago and now they have stopped working.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Thomas

This is a spam block message. You would have to bring it up with your hosting company. It looks like it is getting rejected based on the content or headers.

You might want to try using this site:
https://www.mail-tester.com/

It might help you debug what is wrong with the email and why it would be spam blocked.

Hi Ray,

Thank you for getting back to me. This is very helpful information.
I have relayed this back to my hosting provider and they are looking in to it.

With that aside, would you still recommend I upload the 'newer' version of the WA_Email.php file to my server once this issue is corrected with my hosting provider? The current version on the server is v1.15 and my local file is v1.20. I have also noticed the PHPMailer.php file (attached) is different to my local file. I assume I should also upload this too?

Yes. You probably already have an updated version on your localhost and just haven't uploaded it yet. Keeping it up to date is usually a good practice.
