I need to update my Powerstore to mySQLi or convert to eCart, plz review my thoughts and advise

I believe since I have custom features in my Powerstore the best solution will be to convert to eCart.

You could add captcha to your registration form to prevent automated registrations. I'd have to see what you have to tell you how easily you could update it to mySQLi.

The hard part is usually updating the admin to mySQLi. The front end is usually pretty easy.
