Updates not working: Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction

Hi

When users try to update pages, they get the following error:

Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction

This has only started happening recently and the page design hasn't changed. Anybody know if I need to change something in the database?

Cheers
Chris

Is your table extremely large or are you showing a lot of rows? You might try running a repair statement from phpmyadmin or adding an index or decreasing the number of rows returned on the page to improve efficiency.

Hi Ray

Yes, the table is very large. I'll investigate the repair statement.

Many thanks.

If you are doing JOIN statements, then adding indexes to the joined tables can also speed up the results and prevent this issue.
