update database with success or failure message

I have selected the update database on universal email success or failure, but database if not updated.
There were some instances of mysql_connect in place of mysqli_connect which I have manually rectified.
First, the database can have more than one row with same email, so the update has to work with ID. Secondly, I also need to update another column in db with date when the db is updated. This is to make sure I have record of when email was sent to that particular ID.

You are using a version of Universal Email that doesn't support MySQLi. You would have to update to DataBridge v2 to get the email logging to work with mySQLi. It is a much better library for sending email in general. It also allows you to send SMTP authenticated emails without PEAR and has a lot of efficiency upgrades including a much cleaner code footprint.
