Searching with a partial numerical value

Hi,

Using DA to build a search/results page.

I've a search page working well with mixed value fields.

One of my fields contains numbers which never exceed 8 digits.

I would like to enable the query to search if a partial number is included in the data.

The only way I can do this it seems, is to change it to a text field.

For example if a field contains the value 88933437
And a user queries '933', id like the record with value '88933437' to return, along with any others which meet this condition.

(I don't want to create a from-to search)

My current solution appears to be working ok, however are there any other more suitable options ive missed?

Yes you could convert it to a text field in the detabase, or just in the search query. You would have to convert it to text one way or another, but it doesn't necessarily have to be in the database itself.
