When opening a query in Query Builder the SQL is missing

After I write a query & want to edit it using the Query Builder (visual) the SQL is missing. I can see it before I click 'Query Builder' & I can manually add 'select' - although on occasions that doesn't work correctly & I need to manually fix the SQL statement. Can this be fixed?

What is the SQL statement being used? It might not be understood by the query builder. Can I see a copy of the page and get FTP access to the server for testing? I'd have to investigate it more to determine the cause of the issue.
