Updating order status using PayPal IPN?

We have a website set up with eCart and PayPal and it's testing fine and working well.
The client has asked if it's possible, when they refund a transaction in PayPal, if it could automatically update the order status in their database, one assumes by identifying by the PayPal order ID.

Is this possible? Is this Instant Payment Notification, and is it something you could help us configure/setup?
This would only apply to refunds and we only need it to update an integer field to the value for "refund".

Hope you can help, thank you.

Yes. This is possible with IPN. I could help with it in a premier support ticket. But I'm out on vacation until next week, so it would have to be late next week before I could schedule a meeting.

Thank you Ray. Are you away on the boat again? :)

Roughly, would you say that's something that could be completed within one premier support ticket session, or might it require a couple hours?

Much appreciated. Enjoy your break.

Should only be an hour.

Hi Ray. I hope you're well.
Looking to progress this, if you're available, ideally this week or early next.
Thank you.

What day and time would you like to schedule a call? I can do it as early as tomorrow.

Hi Ray. Could you manage this Thursday (tomorrow)? I'm away today and not back until 8pm (UK time) which would be good timing.

Let me know if that suits. Thank you.

That is 5pm my time I believe. I'll put it in my calendar and contact you via skype to start the meeting.
