Possible dynamically alter product description?

My client has one product that is an assortment of 2, 4, 6, or 12 items where the user selects what they want in the assortment. I have each of the 2, 4, 6, and 12 packs set up as different SKUs as they have random, non-formulaic prices. Is there a way to include their selections in the product description displayed on the ATC page as well as sent to PayPal? The other alternative I thought of was to put it the items in a message field, but the product description would be a much better solution.

I usually append the information I need to the "name" when passing it to PayPal. That way it will appear on all of the pages and email. The description only shows up in a few places.
