Email Debugging

I am having problems getting emails to wend from a contact form.

I used to have to use PEAR as the host wanted emails to be authenticated, this caused me a whole world of pain.

I have upgraded to the new product but I'm still having issues where the form submits but no email is sent.

I have tried creating a database table for logging to see what's happening but I get an error with that as well.

I'm sure there was a block of code we used to be able to use to get a Var_dump to see if the email was succeesfull or not but can't remember what it is.

Does anyone have an easy way to debug email sending please?

If you are using SMTP authenticated email then you can just turn on debugging in the email server behavior directly and the communication between the email server and site will be displayed for debugging.

Thanks Ray - I have this enabled (Data Commands and Connection Status) already - where would I see an output?

It should print it out on the page. If you don't see it, maybe it is an issue with the trigger and the email code isn't even running.

Hi Ray

Would you have a quick look for me?

I have php error reporting enabled and no errors show and also have not seen any errors in Developer Toolbox.

The form submits, validation works but no email is received

I'll need FTP access to debug this.

For SMTP authenticated emails, you usually are required to set the FROM address to match the authenticated user. You can set the REPLY TO to use the entered email address from the form.

I made that change and then I noticed that the form element names weren't correct in the email body, so I fixed that as well. The email appears to send properly now. Please download the files I put up so they don't get accidentally overwritten.
